You know how awful it is to return from vacation? You have a million things to catch up on, both on the home and work fronts. By the end of your first week home, most of the benefits of vacation have disappeared leaving you wondering whether it’s even worth the trouble to go away. I can’t tell you how many times this week I’ve felt like the little guy in the picture above. We saw him on the beach one afternoon and watched as he scuttled around in circles, not sure what he should do next. Sand? Water? Laundry? Writing? Driving? Cooking? Hmm, sand might be the best answer to those questions.
But once I look back on some of my favorite food from the week, the good memories return and I realize that, just maybe, I’ll do this vacation thing again.
There was a really good Grey Goose martini. I like martinis. In fact, I usually like my cocktails dry, not sweet and fruity in case you’re ever wondering what drink to mix for me.
There were also some pretty awesome chocolate croissants from Sugarbakers. I was tempted to scold the boy in the line ahead of me the first day who got the last one of the day. I didn’t, of course, but I was tempted. Instead I just grumbled a lot under my breath. Louisa and I had both been drooling over the thought of having one for breakfast that day. I was told by the sales clerk that they only make a certain number every day and we should probably get there earlier if we want them. You can bet the rest of the week we got there earlier.
Lunch at Sea Star didn’t disappoint, although it did cause us a momentary panic when we first drove up to their location to find it closed. We couldn’t believe it. And then we read the sign on the door that told us where they had moved. Catastrophe avoided. A better location with a better waiting area for our delicious takeout lunches. My first was this hummus and avocado wrap.
And, finally, the scallops last week were probably the best and the sweetest I have ever had. No exaggeration. I ordered them in three different restaurants. Usually once is enough.
Yep, I just may give this vacation thing another try.
Do you ever feel that vacations aren’t worth the trouble it takes to get away?
